KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan government’s negotiating team has arrived in Abdu Dhabi to begin a proximity dialogue with the Talibaninfo-icon delegation and prepare for a face-to-face meeting, the Presidential Palace said on Tuesday.

Chief negotiator Abdul Salam Rahimi, who has already met US special envoy Zalamy Khalilzad, is to hold talks the UAE and Saudi teams this week, a tweet from the Palace said.

About Monday’s meeting, Taliban said their delegation held extensive meetings with the high-ranking officials of Saudi Arabia, Pakistaninfo-icon and the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi.

The talks revolved around the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistaninfo-icon and ending the “oppression being carried out by the US and its allies”.

Views were also exchanged with the countries about peace and reconstructioninfo-icon in Afghanistan, a statement from the insurgent movement said.

Moreover, preliminary talks were held with the mentioned countries along with the State Department’s Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad, it added. Meetings will continue today.

Meanwhile, National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib tweeted that he was departing for Kabul after a successful quadrilateral and bilateral meeting.

He said the negotiating team would remain in the UAE to engage in proximity talks to prepare the ground for direct intra-Afghan dialogue. “We met Khalilzad and the team will meet UAE and KSA.”
