SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants once again captured Mirzawlang valley in northern Sar-i-Pul province after a clash with security forces on Thursday night, a public representative said Friday.

Mohammad Noor Rahmani, head of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents captured three security posts in the valley during last night’s clash.

He warned the Taliban would capture nearby Sayyad district if their advance was not curtailed.

A security official, who declined to be named, told Pajhwok that one Afghan local police member was killed and two others wounded in the clash. He confirmed national and local police lost some posts to the rebels in Mirzawlang.

Sar-i-Pul police chief Khalilullah said seven Taliban fighters were killed and five others wounded during the clash in Mirzawlang valley.

He said two uprising members were wounded in the attack and termed the security forces’ retreat from the area as “tactical.” The police chief said security forces were working on a plan to recapture the area.

The Taliban, who recently refused to attend peace talks with Afghan officials in Oman, have said nothing in this regard so far.

The rebels previously captured Mirzawlang valley about two months ago, causing casualties to a large number of civilians.
