KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Friday said terrorism and drug smuggling threatened the region’s and the worldinfo-icon’s security, stability and development and the threat needed to be fought together.

The president expressed these views during a meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Toni Tan Keng Yam at his office, The Astana, after arriving from Indonesia.

Toni Tan expressed his pleasure over Ghani’s visit which he said would help spur cooperation between the two countries.

He said continued government-to-government contact between the two countries was beneficial in sharing experiences.

President Ghani hailed the technical expertise of the people of Singapore and praised the country’s leadership over the country’s development.

Ghani said though the war in his country had led to wastage of many opportunities, yet Afghanistaninfo-icon was full investment opportunities which he said would be exploited in light of expertise, skills and experiences of international firms.

The president said terrorism and drug smuggling was a threat to the security, stability and development of the region and the world and the twin menace required a joint fight.

The Singaporean leader said his country wanted friendship with Afghanistan based on mutual interest.

He said regional countries besides fighting terrorism and extremism together should also increase trade and social cooperation.

His said his country would cooperate with Afghanistan in areas of educationinfo-icon, good governance and capacity building.
