WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The US on Friday asked Pakistan
not to tolerate Afghan Taliban
groups, such as the Haqqani network
, operating on its soil and match its words with actions in this regard.
State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau told reporters the US had raised the issue again with Pakistani authorities after this week’s deadly Kabul
attack, allegedly conducted by the Haqqani network.
“We have consistently expressed our conce at the highest level of the govement of Pakistan about their continued tolerance for Afghan Taliban groups, such as the Haqqani network, operating from Pakistani soil,” Trudeau said in response to a question.
America’s conces were raised with Pakistan again after Tuesday’s terrorist attack in Kabul, in which 70 people were killed and 347 others wounded, the spokesperson said.
“We have pressed the govement of Pakistan to follow up on its commitment not to discriminate between terror groups, regardless of their agenda or their affiliation by undertaking concrete action against the Haqqanis,” Trudeau added.
Pakistani had reiterated its commitment to avoid making any distinctions among those groups, she noted. “We continue to call on them to live up to that commitment.” She said the US continued to encourage Pakistan to have its actions match its words
“Any attack the Haqqani group conducts is not possible without Pakistan’s help and this has been repeatedly proven in the last 14 years,” presidential spokesmanDawa Khan Meenapalwas quoted as saying by the Voice of America.
